[post_content] => German auto and truck giant Daimler AG (NASDAQOTH:DDAIF) said that two big-truck operators, Penske Truck Leasing and NFI Industries, have agreed to begin using two all-new electric Freightliner trucks in a pilot program -- starting later this year. This is significant.

While it may be a while before consumers adopt electric vehicles in huge numbers, the trucking industry is very interested in the technology's potential to cut fuel costs while greatly reducing emissions. It's a market that Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has been hoping to enter -- but as of right now, it looks like Freightliner is ahead of the Silicon Valley upstart's big-truck effort.

What Daimler said: Its pilot program begins later in 2018
Daimler said that two companies that operate fleets of big trucks have signed up to participate in the pilot program for the two new electric trucks being developed by its Freightliner brand:

Penske Truck Leasing is a corporate sibling of Penske Automotive Group (NYSE:PAG) that leases and maintains over 240,000 trucks around the world.
NFI Industries is a full-service logistics company, a freight hauler that operates a fleet of over 4,000 tractors and 8,700 trailers.
Daimler said that it will supply Penske and NFI with a test fleet of 30 prototype electric trucks before the end of the year. The two companies will evaluate the new Freightliners, working closely with Freightliner engineers to provide detailed feedback to help the company refine the trucks' designs.

What are these electric Freightliners?
Freightliner has two electric trucks in development now. The first, called the eCascadia, is a full-blown Class 8 ("tractor trailer") heavy truck. It has a 550 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, good enough for a range of about 250 miles with a fully loaded trailer. That battery pack has some fast-charging capability: It can be recharged to 80% capacity (or about 220 miles of range) in less than 90 minutes.

The second electric Freightliner, the eM2 106, is what the industry calls a "last mile" truck -- intended for local-level distribution and deliveries. It has a 325-kWh battery pack, giving it a range of about 230 miles when loaded. That battery pack can be recharged to 80% (about 184 miles of range) in less than 60 minutes.

[post_content] => German auto giant Daimler AG has delivered its answer to the Tesla Semi, unveiling an all-electric version of its Cascadia heavy duty semi-trailer truck, called eCascadia.

The electric big-rig was unveiled this week alongside a smaller electric truck, the Freightliner eM2 106, which the company said was designed for local distribution operations and last-mile delivery services.

But most of the media attention has been focused on the eCascadia, which is being seen as a direct – and worthy – competitor to Elon Musk’s “class 8 truck,” the Tesla Semi.

“The Freightliner eCascadia is based on the Cascadia, the most successful heavy-duty long-distance truck (class 8) in the North American market,” the company said in a statement.

“730 hp is almost silently generated under the characteristically long, U.S.-style hood. …*Its batteries provide enough energy for a range of up to 400 km (250 miles), and can be recharged to around 80 per cent within 90 minutes to cover a further 320km (200 miles).”

By comparison, the Tesla Semi offers a 200kWh battery pack; a range of up to 800km (500 miles) on a single charge; and a rate of charge of 400 miles (643km) in 30 minutes.

“By the time you are done with your break, the truck is ready to go. You will not be waiting for your truck to charge,” Musk had boasted at the Semi’s launch in November last year.

[post_content] => Tesla’s all-electric Semi was recently photographed by a Model 3 owner as it was traveling in CA-237 near Sunnyvale, CA, seemingly in the middle of a transport run between the company’s Fremont factory and its Palo Alto headquarters.

The latest image of the Tesla Semi was shared by Model 3 owner and r/TeslaMotors subreddit member u/AMG76, who stated that the picture was taken just this past weekend. This was not the first time that the Semi was spotted in the same area, however. Back in January, the black matte Tesla Semi was sighted accelerating in Elko Drive, Sunnyvale, CA.

Unlike the January Sunnyvale sighting, the Tesla Semi was hauling a trailer this time around. Apart from this, the silver Semi’s rear wheels in the photograph were also fitted with covers that are reminiscent of the Model 3’s Aero Wheels.

Tesla initially announced its plans to become the electric long-hauler’s first customer last year. During a talk in the Netherlands, Tesla VP of Truck programs Jerome Guillen stated that the massive electric vehicles would be used to transport components between Tesla’s factories in Fremont and Nevada.

“Tesla will be the first customer for its own truck. So we will use our own trucks to carry cargo in the US between our different facilities. We have (an) assembly factory in California, we have a battery factory in Nevada, so we’ll use our truck to carry things in between,” the Tesla executive said.

Back in March, Elon Musk proved Guillen’s statements right. In a series of posts on social media, Musk revealed that the two electric trucks would be transporting battery packs manufactured in Gigafactory 1 to the Fremont facility. During Musk’s announcement, the silver Semi, the company’s long-range hauler, as well as the smaller matte black were both deployed for the 250-mile transport run between the two factories.

[post_content] => Semi-Trailer Market Research Report covers the existing situation and the progress predictions of the Semi-Trailer Industry for 2018-2023. Semi-Trailer Market, has been prepared based on detailed market analysis with inputs from industry experts.

A semitrailer is a trailer without a front axle. A large proportion of its weight is supported by a tractor unit, a detachable front axle assembly known as a dolly, or the tail of another trailer. A semitrailer is normally equipped with landing gear (legs which can be lowered) to support it when it is uncoupled.Semitrailers are more popular for transport than full trailers, which have both front and rear axles. Ease of backing is cited as one of the semi’s chief advantages A road tractor coupled to a semitrailer is often called a semitrailer truck or “”semi”” in the US, and an articulated lorry or “”artic”” in the UK.
